Postal worker faces federal charges for bringing firearm to work

Federal charges have been brought against Bria K. Maraia, a DeWitt postal worker, who was found to possess three firearms on the premises of the DeWitt post office in March.

The U.S. Postal Inspection Service had initiated an investigation following reports of an employee carrying a gun at the post office, located near the intersection of Kinne Road and Erie Boulevard.

Maraia was charged with three counts of possession of a firearm on U.S. Postal Service property on March 24, when postal investigators discovered the firearms.

The proceedings will take place in the central violations bureau of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of New York. An in-person hearing has been scheduled for June 30 in Syracuse before Magistrate Judge Therese Wiley Dancks.
