The Buffalo Sabres have assigned top prospect Matthew Savoie to the Rochester Americans, the team announced Sunday.
Savoie, 19, was selected ninth overall by Buffalo in the 2022 NHL Draft. His junior season with the Winnipeg Ice ended Friday in the Western Hockey League championship. Savoie tallied 95 points (38 goals, 57 assists) in 62 regular season games before adding 29 points (11 goals, 18 assists) in 19 playoff games.
The Amerks advanced to the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time since 2004 by sweeping the best-of-five North Division Finals against Toronto. They will face the Hershey Bears in a best-of-seven Eastern Conference Finals, which begins Tuesday.
