Two local animal shelters, the Finger Lakes SPCA of CNY in Auburn and the Wayne County Human Society in Lyons, are set to receive significant funding from the state’s Companion Animal Capital Fund for infrastructural improvements.
Finger Lakes SPCA is earmarked to receive $482,491.50 for a new facility design, inclusive of an HVAC system, while Wayne County Human Society is granted $500,000 for a modernized shelter facility, also featuring an HVAC system.
Governor Hochul, endorsing the funding initiative, highlighted the vital role animal shelters play in caring for pets awaiting adoption.
She underscored the Companion Animal Capital Fund’s impact in fostering better care conditions for animals and providing enhanced support for the dedicated staff and volunteers at these facilities. The state has distributed nearly $7.6 million across New York in this fund’s fifth round.
