A 67-year-old man operating an asphalt roller was killed Tuesday when a car struck the machine from behind on Warncke Road in the Wayne County town of Lyons, State Police said.
Troopers from SP Lyons responded at about 3:33 p.m., according to the State Police report.
A preliminary investigation found that a 2018 Subaru Legacy was traveling south on Warncke Road when it struck the rear of a Caterpillar asphalt roller.
The Subaru was driven by Kelli Conrow, 22, of Lyons, police said.
The impact ejected the roller's operator, who was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical personnel.
Police said no signs of impairment were observed.
The State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is assisting with the ongoing investigation.
