Mets’ 10-game road trip ends with loss to Giants

The New York Mets (14-9) ended their 10-game road trip on Sunday night with a 5-4 loss to the San Francisco Giants (8-13) at Oracle Park.

Francisco Alvarez hit a game-tying solo home run over the left-field wall in the sixth inning, but San the Giants regained the lead in the eighth and held on for the victory to split the four-game series.

Francisco Lindor plated a run with a double earlier in the game, while Mark Canha and Brandon Nimmo added sacrifice flies. Jeff McNeil chipped in with a pair of hits.

Tylor Megill surrendered a season-high four runs on six hits over four innings while walking one and striking out two.

Jeff Brigham struck out four batters over two shutout innings. Brooks Raley tossed a scoreless frame, while Drew Smith gave up the go-ahead run-scoring double.

The Mets will finally head home and get the day off Monday before opening a three-game series with the Washington Nationals on Tuesday at Citi Field. The first pitch is slated for 7:10 p.m.
