Major League Baseball announced Thursday that New York Mets starting pitcher Max Scherzer has been suspended 10 games for violating the foreign substance use rules during Wednesday’s game against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Scherzer has also been hit with a $10,000 fine.
The right-hander was ejected after the umpires checked his hand and glove multiple times and determined that he violated the league’s policy against sticky substances.

Scherzer told reporters after the game that he “swears on his life” that he was using just rosin and sweat, which is legal.
