In a case of financial exploitation, a Hornell woman has been arrested for allegedly using a disabled person’s EBT card to make unauthorized purchases. Elena F. Zaldivar, 25, was taken into custody on April 7 by investigators from the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office.
Zaldivar, a resident of Elizabeth Street in Hornell, New York, is accused of unlawfully obtaining $219.44 in benefits by using an EBT card belonging to an incompetent or physically disabled individual. The incident reportedly took place on February 3 without the card owner’s permission.
The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office has charged Zaldivar with endangering the welfare of an incompetent or physically disabled person in the first degree, a class E felony. Additionally, she faces charges of Misuse of Food Stamps and Petit Larceny. Following her arrest, Zaldivar was released on an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in the Hornell City Court at a later date.
