Jan Regan is running for mayor in the city of Geneva after getting support from the city’s Democratic Committee.
That means there will likely be a primary to see who will make it to the general election in November, as incumbent Steve Valentino seeks re-election.
The City’s Democratic Committee said that several ‘highly qualified’ candidates were interviewed for support. However, the Ward 3 Councilor was best fit to address the city’s challenges moving forward.
Valentino told the Finger Lakes Times that he saw this moment coming, noting that he was prepared to gather signatures and ensure he’d be on the primary ballot on June 27th. The mayor has sided with Republicans on a number of high-profile issues facing city council.
