A Monroe Community College student has been arrested by Brighton police after he allegedly brought a stolen, loaded gun into a classroom on Tuesday afternoon. The student, identified as 21-year-old Giovanni Paige-Mota, has been charged with criminal possession of a weapon.
According to the school, they received a report about the incident at around 12:25 p.m. and immediately dispatched MCC Public Safety to the classroom to investigate. The student was then escorted out of the room and found with the weapon.
Fortunately, the school stated that the student did not display the firearm or act in a threatening manner, and no one was injured during the incident. However, it remains unclear why the student brought the weapon to class.
Paige-Mota is now being held in the Monroe County Jail. The school has not released any further information on the incident or how they plan to address it.
