An 82-year-old woman was pronounced dead at a Long Island nursing home on Saturday but found to be breathing three hours later at the funeral home where she had been taken, according to authorities.
The woman was discovered breathing at O.B. Davis Funeral Homes in Miller Place and taken to a hospital, though no update on her condition was available Monday.
The case has been referred to the New York state attorney general’s office for investigation, with the state health department also conducting an investigation.
This incident follows a similar case in Iowa last month, where a woman was declared dead but later found to be breathing at a funeral home. The New York nursing home and funeral home declined to comment on the matter.
