A Cayuga County business will receive nearly $3 million from the state for upgrades to its operation.

Owens-Brockway Glass Container Inc. has received a $2.8 million Empire State Development grant to upgrade its Sennett location by rebuilding and designing its aging glass manufacturing furnace.

The upgrades will make it energy efficient and sustainable, the state says.

The company will also receive a $1 million Excelsior Jobs Tax Credit with the award.

“Together, the Regional Economic Development Councils are growing New York’s economy by emphasizing the rich assets in every corner of our state and investing in projects that will create good, high-quality jobs,” Governor Hochul said. “As we continue to make deep investments in New York communities, we remain committed to doing so in a way that expands opportunity, drives private investment, and bolsters our talented workforce.”

The funding comes as part of New York’s Round XII of the Regional Economic Development Council Initiative.
