Geneva police tell residents to keep car doors locked as attempted thefts skyrocket

Police in Geneva say vehicles are being burglarized and vandalized at an unusual rate.

The incidents have been connected to an increase in theft attempts of Kia and Hyundai vehicles.

Over the last several months, the city of Rochester has dealt with this problem extensively. It stems from a TikTok video where Kia and Hyundai vehicles are targeted.

The vehicles that have been targeted in Geneva are on Pulteney and South Main streets, as well as Washington Avenue.

Police say only one vehicle was stolen. That vehicle was recovered in Rochester.

GPD urges all residents to keep cars locked, leave them in well-lit areas that are high traffic, remove keys and valuable from the vehicles, and never leave vehicles running and unattended.

Anyone with information about break-ins or auto thefts should call (315) 789-111.
