Wolcott woman dies in crash that shut down State Route 414

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office has provided an update on the fatal crash that shut down part of State Route 414 for a large chunk of the day on Tuesday.

According to deputies, Kayla Finch, 34, of Wolcott lost control of her vehicle while traveling south on Route 414. Her vehicle crossed into the opposite lane and collided with a northbound tractor-trailer operated by Chad Proper, 51, of Silver Springs.

Both vehicles left the roadway and came to rest in a ditch on the east side of the road. As result, the trailer overturned.

Finch was pronounced dead at the scene. The collision remains under investigation, deputies said.

The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Clyde Fire Department, Lyons Fire Department, Seneca Falls Fire Department, Clyde Ambulance, Lyons Ambulance, Wayne County Advanced Life Support, and the New York State Police.
