United Airlines flight 4380 from Newark Liberty International Airport to Ithaca Tompkins International Airport was diverted to Syracuse Hancock International Airport with no clear explanation given to passengers.
According to a passenger on the flight who spoke with 14850, they were initially told the flight couldn’t land due to “snow on the runway,” then separately “for legal reasons.”
However, there was no snow in Ithaca on Sunday and Ithaca airport officials told 14850 there were no weather or runway conditions that would have had an impact on the flight.
United’s app showed the flight as “canceled” to passengers booked on it, and both FlightRadar and FlightAware flight tracking sites showed the flight as diverted and landed in Syracuse.
A passenger on the flight said they were told they’d be bused to Ithaca from Syracuse.
So far, United Airlines has not publicly commented on the flight.
