More information has been released as the investigation into a death at the Cayuga County Jail continues.
Sheriff Brian Schenck said Fred Williams, age 35, of Summerhill was found unresponsive during routine rounds on November 24th at 7:30 a.m.
Staff immediately began rendering first aid. However, after being transported to Upstate University Hospital – Williams died the next day.
Williams was being held on a parole violation and a new felony weapons charge.
The AG’s office was immediately contact and investigation launched. In November, the AG said a preliminary assessment would be conducted before an official investigation is opened.
As of this week that assessment remains active.
