The Rochester Americans (10-5-1-1) blew a three-goal lead but were still able to pick up a 6-5 victory in overtime over the Bridgeport Islanders (10-3-4-0) on Friday night at the Blue Cross Arena.
Rochester led 4-2 after two periods, but Bridgeport scored three third-period goals, including one with 49 seconds remaining in regulation to force overtime. Two minutes into the extra frame, Brett Murray sniped the game-winning goal, extending the Amerks’ win streak to three.
Sean Malone recorded a natural hat trick in the first period, scoring three times in a span of 5:07, and later added an assist for the first four-point night of his career. It was also the first hat trick of his career. Kale Clague netted his first goal as an Amerk, while Jiri Kulich also found the back of the net. Ethan Prow, Isak Rosen, and Michael Mersch each collected a pair of assists.
Rochester converted twice on five power-play opportunities while going 1-for-2 on the penalty kill.
The Amerks will play their third game in four days when they take on the Lehigh Valley Phantoms on Saturday at 7 p.m.
