The Rochester Americans hosted the Utica Comets in the front end of a home-and-home series on Friday night at the Blue Cross Arena and suffered a 3-2 loss. With the loss, Rochester dropped to 7-5-1-1 on the season.

The game was tied at two going into the third period, but Utica scored with just over two minutes remaining in regulation, handing the Amerks their third-straight loss.

Michael Mersch netted his first goal of the season for Rochester, while Sean Malone scored his third. Brett Murray collected a pair of assists. Malcolm Subban made his season debut and stopped 22-of-25 shots.

Both teams failed to score on the power play as Rochester went 0-for-1 and Utica finished 0-for-3.

The Amerks will try to snap their skid on Saturday at the Adirondack Bank Center.
