While residents of New York are calling on the Democratic Party Chairman to resign, Governor Kathy Hochul still supports him.
Hochul won the election for New York State Governor, but it was a close race between her and Republican candidate Lee Zeldin. Zeldin won a majority of the counties and Republicans were able to flip four Democratic Congressional seats, according to My Twin Tiers.
Hochul recently held a press conference in Buffalo. She was asked if she supported Jay Jacobs, the Democratic Party Chair. Her answer was yes, but she made it clear she believes more work still needs to be done. She described the situation as an opportunity to rebuild. Though she has been governor for over a year, she believes it’s time to step back and make sure that the Democratic Party in New York is the powerhouse it should be. Hochul also said that it’s her job to unify people with different viewpoints that all fall into the Democratic Party.
The Republican Party is set to get a new chairman. The current chair, Nick Langworthy, has been elected for Congress and needs a replacement. Langworthy credited Zeldin for getting 11 Republicans elected for Congress.
