By the start of 2024 Yates County will have a new judge.
Jason Cook, the 51-year-old who has served as County Court Judge there since 2017, was elected a state Supreme Court justice on Election Day.
The Republican will assume the role on January 1st, 2023, which means a vacancy will be created.
Election officials told the Finger Lakes Times the position will be on the ballot in November 2023. In the meantime, Governor Kathy Hochul’s office can appoint a replacement.
The petition process for anyone interested in running for the job will begin in March. A primary could be held in June.
