After 41 drawings for the Powerball jackpot, someone has finally matched all five numbers with the Powerball number, walking away with the $2.4 billion dollar grand prize.
Lottery officials made the announcement on Tuesday after facing a major delay during the Monday night drawing.
If the winner chooses the lump sum cash payment they will get around $997.6 million dollars.
The winning ticket was sold in California at a gas station in Altadena. This is an unincorporated area of Los Angeles County, according to My Twin Tiers.
In Florida a winning ticket raked in $2 million dollars with five matching numbers and the Power Play.
Another 22 winning tickets that received $1 million each were located in California, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Missouri, North Carolina, New Jersey, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas and Washington.
There were only four other jackpots to ever reach the $1 billion dollar mark for the grand prize before last night’s. In Aug. the jackpot was worth $20 million and just kept growing ever since.
The next drawing for Wednesday at 10:59 p.m. will be for $20 million.
