A smaller Walgreens location is set to open on Wednesday in the City of Corning on Pulteney Street.
Corning City Manager Mark Ryckman said it’s good to see the site being redeveloped and said “it had become a blight on the neighborhood” over the years, according to The Evening Tribune.
Walgreens did not verify if the current location will close. Several employees who work at the current location said that it will close when the smaller location opens. The current location is at on 375 West Pulteney Street.
The current Walgreens reportedly has a lot of empty shelves.
Walgreens began a new type of store in 2020 that makes the retail portion much smaller. It focuses more on the pharmacy services offered
There will be less items available in the front of the store and less options for over the counter medications. The focus between customers and pharmacists will be focused on more.
This is a new store model in an area of the city that has struggled to attract developers.
