The New York Mets have already locked up one of their top priorities before free agency starts on Thursday.
According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, the Mets have agreed to a five-year, $102 million contract with All-Star closer Edwin Díaz.
This is the first nine-figure contract for a closing pitcher in history, which includes an opt-out, a full no-trade clause, and a sixth-year option.
Díaz appeared in 61 games for the Mets in 2022 and posted a 1.31 ERA while racking up 32 saves.
