New York State Department of Labor audit will be released soon with findings that might show unemployment losses during pandemic

NYS Comptroller Tom DiNapoli plans to soon offer a major update regarding the New York State Department of Labor audit.

The audit may even reveal exactly how residents were playing the system to get unemployment benefits they weren’t entitled to and how much was stolen.

News about the audit began circling as far back as May of 2021, according to 13 WHAM.

This was over a year and a half ago and still no audit has been released.

What could the NYSDOL audit reveal?

One of the things the audit will look at are the controls and security of the state’s unemployment system. This may reveal how much was fraudulently claimed during the pandemic.

That dollar amount for New York has never been revealed, but California reported losing billions.

13 WHAM checked in with DiNapoli’s office at the end of September and were told the audit was finished but it needed to be reviewed.

When reached for comment, DiNapoli said the review is taking longer than he would like, but there is a response and they are just finalizing everything.

He added that there will be some “significant findings and recommendations that will be included.”

When asked if the audit would be out before or after Nov. 8, he responded that he wanted it out “yesterday.”

There has been no date released for when to expect the results, but DiNapoli keeps assuring people it’s “real soon.”
