Macedon driver who was partially ejected in serious rollover crash in Palmyra faces charges after lengthy investigation

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest of a Macedon man following a crash investigation that happened in Palmyra over the summer.

Deputies were called to a personal injury crash on August 8th around 12:30 p.m.

The driver, identified as John Briggs Jr., 29, of Macedon, is said to have been traveling west on Hydesville Road at an unsafe speed and lost control of the vehicle.


It overturned in a ditch and Briggs was partially ejected. Firefighters extricated him from the vehicle, and he was airlifted to Strong Memorial Hospital.

Deputies said an investigation revealed the presence of drugs and alcohol in his system at the time of the crash.

Briggs was charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs and alcohol, failure to keep right, and speed not reasonable on October 30th. All of the charges will be answered in Palmyra Town Court.

Deputies were assisted on scene by New York State Police, East Palmyra Fire Department, Marion Fire Department, Macedon Town Ambulance and Finger Lakes Ambulance.
