Brewerton man faces burglary, arson charges after setting abandoned gas station on fire

On September 29th state police arrested Kevin J. Somers, age 32, from Brewerton for Burglary 3rd degree, a class “D” felony, and Arson 4th degree, a class “E” felony.

Somers is charged with unlawfully entering an abandoned gas station located at 2949 State Route 49 in the town of West Monroe sometime between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m., where he intentionally started a fire to stay warm and recklessly set the entire structure on fire.


West Monroe Fire Dept., Brewerton Fire Dept., Central Square Fire Dept., Cleveland Fire Dept., Constantia Fire Dept., Mexico Fire Dept., and Menter Ambulance all responded to the scene.

Fire officials determined the building to be a total loss.

Somers was taken into custody without incident and was transported to the Oswego County Public Safety Building for centralized arraignment.
