Canandaigua Town Board stuck on second attempt to increase public access to Canandaigua Lake: Why have both plans failed?

Greater access to Canandaigua Lake for residents of Canandaigua? It doesn’t look like any plans will move forward.

The Town Board is deadlocked, according to the Canandaigua Messenger. A resolution to purchase land at 3950 County Road 16 is stuck at a 2-2 tie among town board members.

The option to purchase expires at the end of September.

Limited use of the parcel due to geography, as well as ballooning costs were to blame for the failure, according to the town board members who voted against it.

Nearby residents were also concerned about a trail that would be created on the property.

The Messenger reports that last year the owner of a property on Tichenor Point canceled a contract with the town after residents nearby objected to plans for a public park and public access to Canandaigua Lake.
