The New York Yankees announced Monday that they have placed right-handed reliever Scott Effross on the 15-day injured list (retroactive to August 21) with a right shoulder strain.
In a corresponding move, the Yankees recalled reliever/starting pitcher Clarke Schmidt from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Effross, 28, was traded to New York from the Chicago Cubs on August 1. He has a 3.24 ERA in eight relief appearances as a Yankee.
Schmidt, 26, has a 2.40 ERA over 30 innings with the Yankees this season. He last appeared in a big-league game on July 30.
