Syracuse Mets edge Charlotte in series opener

The Syracuse Mets edged the Charlotte Knights, 9-8, in the series opener on Tuesday night at Truist Field. Syracuse snapped a three-game skid with the victory.

After falling behind 2-0, the Mets plated seven of their nine runs in the third inning to take a 7-2 lead and were able to hold on for the win. Mark Vientos and Travis Blaknehorn each homered to lead the offense. Patrick Mazeika drove in a pair of runs, while Daniel Palka, Khalil Lee, and J.T. Riddle chipped in with RBIs.


Trey Cobb started for Syracuse and surrendered a pair of runs over three innings. Alex Claudio, Locke St. John, and Michael Otanez combined to allow six runs in relief. Philip Diehl tossed 1 1/3 shutout innings.

The Mets will try to make it two in a row on Wednesday. The first pitch is slated for 6:35 p.m.
