Rochester Red Wings’ three-game win streak snapped with loss to Norfolk

The Rochester Red Wings had their three-game win streak snapped on Sunday afternoon at Frontier Field with a 12-7 loss to the Norfolk Tides. With the loss, the two teams split the six-game series.

Daniel Ponce de Leon started for Rochester and allowed five runs (four earned) on eight hits over four innings while walking two and striking out five.

The Red Wings fell behind 4-0 before they plated their first runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Jake Alu launched his fourth home run of the season over the right-field wall to make it 4-2.

However, in the top of the fifth, the Tides scored five runs to break the game open and extend their lead to 10-2. In the bottom of the frame, David Dahl brought home a run with a sacrifice fly.

After Norfolk added another run in the top of the seventh to increase the lead, the Red Wings put up a four spot in the bottom of the inning. Dahl collected his second RBI of the game with a run-scoring double. Two batters later, Dahl scored on Riley Adams’ RBI single. Following that, Nick Banks smoked an RBI single and Jecksson Flores capped off the frame with a bases-loaded walk to make it 11-7.

The tides scored their final run in the top of the ninth on a solo home run.

The Red Wings will get the day off on Monday before they open a six-game series with the Worcester Red Sox on Tuesday at Polar Park. The first pitch is set for 6:45 p.m.
