Riesling day comes to the Linden Wine Series (video)

If you’re looking for a fun social event to attend this summer, and you like wine, look no further than the Linden Wine Series in downtown Geneva.

The Linden Wine Series takes place on one of Geneva’s premiere downtown streets, Linden Street, for a weekend night of tastings from about six to 10 local wineries, distilleries and breweries along with free music and a lively atmosphere.

The Riesling event kicks off this Saturday, August 13 at 6 p.m. The event will include different varieties of riesling from local wineries across our region.

What is the Linden Wine Series?

Jim Cecere is the owner of Vinifera, Finger Lakes Goods, and Finger Lakes Cookie Company. He came up with the idea for the series as a means to celebrate the wine and people of the Finger Lakes.

“The Lindon Wine Series was born out of the idea, we’re here surrounded by these terrific Finger Lakes wines that people were enjoying more and more with the number of wineries that have opened here over the last 15-20 years,” said Cecere.

“With the number of varietals, the increasing quality, and the fact that a lot more people are traveling here to enjoy them, the idea came to me, ‘why not create something that celebrates the varietals?'”

Ticket prices for this year’s event are $40 per person, or, with their full passport option for $100, you can go to all of the events.

All the proceeds from the ticket sales go to The Finger Lakes Land Trust and The Seneca Lake Pure Waters Association.

Riesling event is this Saturday at 6 p.m.

“The Riesling grape is one of the most storied grapes here in the region. It allows people to come and enjoy and taste anywhere from 60 to 100 different varietals and to bring them in one spot while listening to cool music on a cool street and having a cool vibe,” said Cecere.

Local wineries from all over the Finger Lakes are participating in this weekend’s event, including Montezuma Winery & Hidden Marsh Distillery, which is based in Seneca Falls.

Olivia Brandow is the Marketing & Graphic Design Manager at Montezuma. She said she’s excited the winery can be a part of the event.

“I know this event is new this year, through Vinifera and we’re really happy to support them and be there with other wineries. We do have a few wines available in their wine bar, so we’re just really excited to continue that partnership with them.”

Joe Kennedy is the owner of The Linden Social Club. he believes the Linden Wine Series idea isn’t just about hosting wine events: It’s also about bringing more attention to the City of Geneva and Linden Street.

“Making this area kind of a wine hub, if you will,” said Kennedy.
