The first harmful algal blooms on Owasco Lake this year were reported by health officials in Cayuga County on Thursday.
The Owasco Lake Watershed Association reported the blooms to state agencies. The bloom was relatively small and localized near the Owasco Country Club.
Owasco Lake is the source of public drinking water for the city of Auburn and the town of Owasco.
The water is treated and typically not impacted by HABs. If that were to happen, the County has processes in place to notify residents that water is tainted.
