  • Undersheriff Steve Smith is retiring at the end of the year. He’ll be replaced by current Seneca Falls Police Chief Stu Peenstra.
  • 30 years ago this week, Sgt. Vincent Spinelli was killed in the line of duty. 
  • The State Fair reversed its decision and will allow off-duty law enforcement and anyone with a valid pistol permit to carry a weapon at the fair.
  • Call volume within the road patrol division remains high this summer, up 20% in July over last year.
  • The department has handled 139 overdoses this year. The Sheriff warns of the increasing presence of fentanyl mixed in with other drugs.
  • There is now a 9-8-8 hotline for people to call if they are experiencing mental health problems.
  • In-person inmate visitation will resume at the county jail Monday, August 15 for the first time since the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • The Sheriff and Auburn Police Chief James Slayton have challenged Auburn Community Hospital to a canned good drive leading up to Auburn’s Tomatofest on September 10. We’ll have a Tomatofest preview with Gilda Brower later this month on Inside the FLX.
