Jacob deGrom shines as Mets top Braves in series finale

The New York Mets defeated the Atlanta Braves, 5-2, in the series finale on Sunday evening at Citi Field. With the victory, New York won four of five in the series.

Jacob deGrom made his first home start this season and was perfect through 5 2/3 innings. Then, he walked Ehire Adrianza and served up a two-run home run to Dansby Swanson before he was pulled from the game. The right-hander finished with a season-high 12 strikeouts

The Mets scored four of their five runs in the bottom of the third inning on a pair of two-run doubles from Pete Alonso and Mark Canha.

New York plated their fifth and final run of the game in the bottom of the fifth on a wild pitch.


Brandon Nimmo collected three hits, while Francisco Lindor and Tomás Nido each had two.

Joely Rodríguez tossed 2 1/3 shutout innings before Edwin Díaz struck out the side in a 1-2-3 ninth to secure his 26th save of the season.

The Mets will open a three-game series with the Cincinnati Reds at home on Monday. The first pitch is slated for 7:10 p.m.
