The New York Mets made a couple of roster moves before Thursday’s series opener against the Miami Marlins at Citi Field.
The team optioned right-handed reliever Adonis Medina to Triple-A Syracuse after throwing three shutout innings in Wednesday’s 8-3 victory over the Cincinnati Reds.
In a corresponding move, New York recalled right-handed reliever Jake Reed from Triple-A Syracuse.
Medina has pitched to a 3.00 ERA over 21 innings with the Mets this season.
Reed has really struggled with the big-league club this season. He owns a 16.62 ERA over 4 1/3 innings.
Even though Medina has had a lot of success this season, the Mets wanted to add a fresh arm to the bullpen.
