The New York Yankees fell to the Houston Astros, 2-1, in a makeup game at Minute Maid Park on Thursday night.
Once again, New York struggled to generate offense against Houston’s pitching staff. The Yankees scored their lone run in the sixth inning on Anthony Rizzo’s 21st home run of the season. They had just five total hits and Giancarlo Stanton collected two of them.
Luis Severino started on the mound for New York and surrendered a pair of runs over six innings while walking two and striking out four. Ron Marinaccio and Albert Abreu each tossed a scoreless inning in relief.
Alex Bregman provided all of the Astros offense as he hammered a two-out, two-run double off the top of the left-field wall in the third.
The Yankees will head to Cleveland to begin a three-game series with the Guardians on Friday night. Gerrit Cole will get the ball. The first pitch is slated for 7:10 p.m.
