As we look forward to celebrating Independence Day, most of us enjoy celebrating by watching fireworks. There are many dangers associated with at home fireworks. According to the National Fire Protection Association fireworks start over 19,000 fires, and with the dry weather this will increase that risk. Fireworks have been known to cause house fires, automobile fires and forest fires.
The more worrisome statistic is that at home fireworks also send over 9000 people to the emergency room each year. These injuries are mostly burns to the extremities. Did you know that sparklers burn at 1200 degrees Fahrenheit?
There are many local opportunities to be patriotic and attend local fireworks shows, and ensure a safe fireworks experience by leaving the fireworks up to the professionals. This July 4th weekend Canal Fest in Seneca Falls will feature a professional fireworks show as well as Seneca Lake Resorts in Romulus. Later this month the Seneca County Fair is another perfect local option for a great fireworks show which will be held Friday, July 22 at the Seneca County Fairgrounds, 100 Swift Street, Waterloo, NY.
Other fun ways to celebrate without the potential dangers of at home fireworks:
Patriotic silly string
Patriotic themed parties and cakes
