Applications closed yesterday for a monthly UBI program that will pay Texas residents $375 per month.
The program is a pilot program in the city of Houston, Texas.
Applications closed on Wednesday, May 25, 2022 at 11:59 p.m.
Out of all of the applicants, 110 will qualify.
UBI: Many to see $500 monthly payments
Over the course of the entire UBI program, recipients will see a total of $4,500 for one year.
Applications opened the same day the UBI program was announced.
The Houston Fund for Social Justice and Economic Equity will disburse the money to participating residents.
The Mayors for Guaranteed Income is also in a partnership for the program.
There are dozens of mayors across the country in the coalition.
Other city mayors involved include Atlanta, Los Angeles, and Philadelphia.
Eligibility requirements for the Houston UBI program
The biggest requirement is showing you’ve experienced economic hardship.
Other requirements include being a resident of Houston, being at least 18, and an income at or below federal poverty level.
Application process
The applications were available in English, Spanish, Mandarin, and Vietnamese.
Residents that were homeless, in the justice system, or who have health issues were targeted.
The biggest goal of the UBI program is to combat economic insecurity.
