A new record high has been set for the national average gas price.
In every state in the US, gas is at least $4 per gallon.
Why are gas prices still so high?
In January 2022, AAA reported the national average was $3.28. The Russian invasion of Ukraine sent prices even higher. Drivers in California are paying over $6 for a gallon of gas. Read more about it here.
The Russian war in Ukraine is a key contributor to current gas prices. Many Western nations have put sanctions on Russia, which reduces the amount of resources available.
Oil is needed to produce gas. The market for oil is global, so without one of the largest producers, prices have increased.
As long as the war continues, gas prices will remain high.
