Why is McDonald’s leaving Russia?
McDonald’s has confirmed that they have begun to sell their Russian businesses. This is in response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February. The company has made this decision to stay committed to their values. Find additional details here.
The company is hoping to find a local buyer which will include all the physical stores. The hope is that the employees can continue to work at that location after it has been sold to secure employment for everyone involved.
Expanding into Russia was very profitable. Deciding to leave the country will result in a financial loss of about $1.2-$1.4 billion. The company is pulling out of Russia because they can no longer “ignore the humanitarian crisis caused by the war in Ukraine.”
