Syracuse Mets blanked by SWB RailRiders in series opener

The Syracuse Mets were blanked by the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders on Tuesday night at PNC Field in what was a very low-scoring game with a lot of strikeouts.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre plated two runs in the eighth and won the game, 2-0.

Left-hander Thomas Szapucki got the start for Syracuse and was outstanding. He struck out nine batters over four shutout innings and allowed just three hits. Yennsy Díaz allowed both runs in relief.

The Mets had just four hits and none of them were for extra bases.

Syracuse will try to even this six-game series at a game apiece on Wednesday. The first pitch is slated for 11:05 a.m.
