The first batch of Social Security checks have gone out to recipients today if their birthday is between the first and tenth of the month.
The checks include the 5.9% COLA increase that went into effect in 2022 in response to inflation.
Each year COLA increases may happen to offset the increase in inflation.
Some years it goes up, or it does not at all. It will never go down.

When are Social Security payments sent?
Payments go out on the second, third, and fourth Wednesday of every month.
Those with birthdays on the first through tenth can expect payments on the second Wednesday of the month.
Social Security: Claiming benefits when married
Anyone with a birthday on the 11th through the 20th will see their checks on the third Wednesday of each month.
Finally, people with birthdays on the 21st through 31st will see their checks on the fourth Wednesday of each month.
