The Rochester Red Wings were down to their final out in the ninth inning but then they scored three runs to take the lead and eventually beat the Worcester Red Sox, 3-2, on Wednesday afternoon at Polar Park. The victory pushed Rochester’s win streak to five games.
After Lucious Fox and Cole Freeman reached base in the ninth, Andrew Stevenson hammered a game-tying two-run double to right. Luis Garcia followed that with an RBI single to center to put Rochester on top, 3-2. That ended up being the difference in the game as the Red Wings held on in the bottom half of the frame.
Cade Cavalli got the start for Rochester and allowed a pair of runs (one earned) on four hits over 5.2 innings while walking one and striking out six.
The bullpen did an excellent job. Francisco Perez, Patrick Murphy, and Jordan Weems combined for 3.1 scoreless innings in relief.
Freeman led the Red Wings with a three-hit game. Stevenson and Garcia also had multi-hit games.
The two teams will continue the six-game series on Thursday night. The first pitch is scheduled for 6:45 p.m.
