When will I get the money?
Gretchen Whitmer, the Michigan Governor and Anita Fox, the state’s Department of Insurance and Financial Services (DIFS) said that they money will start being sent soon. Click here to read more.
Their announcement said that the money will be distributed once a $3 billion transfer of surplus funds to car insurance companies across Michigan is complete.
Once the transfer is complete, insurers will have a 60 day deadline to send out the $400 checks per vehicle to eligible drivers.
Whitmer said, “I called for these refunds because I am committed to lowering costs for Michiganders and putting money back in people’s pockets.”
Auto insurance companies will have until May 9,2022 to disperse the checks.

How do I know if I am eligible?
Drivers do not have to apply to receive the $400. The checks will automatically be issued by the state’s Department of Insurance and Financial Services.
If you are eligible but do not receive your check by the deadline, contact your insurance company. If you have questions that can’t be answered by your insurance company contact DIFS at 833-ASK-DIFS (833-275-3437) Monday-Friday 8am-5pm. The are also available via email at [email protected]
