In a crowded field of Democratic contenders, the Working Families Party has thrown its support behind Josh Riley for New York’s 22nd congressional district primary.

That comes on top of endorsements from the Cortland County Democratic Committee and former Congressional candidate Dana Balter. Riley says he’s pleased with the wide base of support his campaign is attracting.

The newly redrawn district includes portions of Cayuga, Ontario, and Seneca counties among others. It also includes the cities of Auburn, Geneva, Ithaca, Cortland, and Syracuse. Riley was the only non-incumbent candidate to receive an endorsement from the Working Families Party on Monday, March 7. We asked Riley what led him to run for Congress.

Seven Democrats in total are vying for the 22nd congressional district seat. Those candidates include Riley, Francis Conole, Vanessa Fajans-Turner, Steven Holden, Sarah Klee Hood, Chol Majok, and Sam Roberts. Riley has raised $416,200 for his campaign thus far, with Conole being the only Democrat in the race to raise more at $439,638.

The primary will be held on June 28, 2022.
