The Willard Drug Treatment Campus will close on Thursday, March 10, meaning all of its 268 employees will need to decide what’s next for their career.
The medium-security facility, which sits on a 650-acre campus on the shores of Seneca Lake in the Town of Romulus, will close its doors after 153 years of operation, according to Finger Lakes Times. The former site of Willard Psychiatric Center was converted to a state drug treatment center in 1995.
The New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (DOCCS) announced the closure of the facility in November 2021. The DOCCS stated that they anticipate no layoffs as they work with Willard employee representatives to find them new placements via voluntary transfers. The 108 current inmates at Willard will be moved to Lakeview Shock Incarceration Facility in Chautauqua County.
