The World Health Organization’s regional emergency director, Dr. Dorit Nitzan, said that BA.2 “has a pretty strong trajectory and that it will spread quickly throughout the world.” Read more about it here.
The subvariant moves much more quickly from person to person. This has been observed in Denmark and the U.K. The rise of BA.2 confirms that it may end up a dominant strain.
Currently, there is no risk associated with BA.2 reinfecting people who already had Omicron.
