Skilled trades growing as college enrollment drops

High school grads across the country are skipping college and opting for skilled trades instead.

With an aging workforce and a wave of retirements, there are many trade jobs opening up in a variety of industries.

SUNY school enrollment has dropped almost 20% in the last decade. Meanwhile, those signing up for apprenticeship programs has increased by 10% in the same timeframe, according to 13 Wham.

Many see the skilled trade route as a no-brainer as their peers rack up college debt, with federal student debt reaching $1.6 trillion in July 2021.
