Fatal crash under investigation in Palmyra: Ontario man pronounced dead at the scene

One person is dead after a single-vehicle crash that happened around 12:40 p.m. on Thursday.

According to a news release from the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, investigation into a one car crash on Route 21 determined that Thomas Hemstreet, 56, of Ontario was traveling south in the town of Palmyra when he veered off the road and collided with a tree.

Deputies say Hemstreet was pronounced dead at the scene.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Deputies were assisted at the scene by Finger Lakes Ambulance, as well as Palmyra and Marion fire departments.
