State police investigators say a 41-year-old Canisteo man engaged in sexual intercourse with a child under 17.
John Ross Jr., was indicted by a grand jury in Steuben County on rape and incest charges.
Authorities say the charges were felony counts. He was also charged with endangering the welfare of a child and assault.
District Attorney Brooks Baker told The Evening Tribune that the charges stem from allegations out of Canisteo in July 2021. Ross is accused of engaging in sexual intercourse with a girl under 17 by means of forcible compulsion, according to prosecutors.
The Child Advocacy Center assisted with the case. According to prosecutors, the victim suffered physical, mental, and moral welfare injuries.
Ross was arraigned and held on $5,000 cash bail.
