Buffalo Sabres goaltender Aaron Dell has been suspended for three games, without pay, for interference against Ottawa Senators forward Drake Batherson during the first period of Tuesday’s road game against the Ottawa Senators, the NHL’s Department of Player Safety announced Wednesday.
Dell will forfeit $11,250.00. The money goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.
Dell will be eligible to return to play on Thursday, February 10 when the Sabres host the Columbus Blue Jackets.
The suspension puts the Sabres in a tough position as Michael Houser is the only goalie currently on an NHL contract. Craig Anderson, who is on an NHL contract, is close to returning from Injured Reserve, per head coach Don Granato. However, he might not be ready for the teams road game against the Arizona Coyotes on Saturday which means the Sabres will have to find someone to backup Houser.
